Project Update for Friday, January 5, 2024

Jan 5, 2024

As the new year begins, construction continues at a fast pace on the Volt Broadband network throughout the NELPCO footprint.

The backbone fiber buildout continues to make steady progress as it has now eclipsed the 70% mark, with a take rate (i.e., those eligible who opt-in for the broadband service) remaining at over 50% of our NELPCO members.

A very busy construction year in 2023 recently wrapped up with over 1,000 miles of fiber build out, and over 2,100 customers added. We ended the 2023 calendar year with just short of 2,500 Volt Broadband customers.

Our newest feeder, Oak Grove 1, opened in early December which made it possible for another 400 customers to be served, and we anticipate many of them becoming active customers now that the feeder is open and the installation process is in full swing.

In addition, a second Oak Grove feeder is expected to open for sign-ups in mid-January, followed by two more feeders opening in the Oak Grove area in early February.

In March, the feeder servicing our membership in the Kilbourne/Chickasaw area is expected to open, and service in the Darnell, Pioneer and Holly Ridge areas is anticipated to become available to those potential customers in April and May.

Also, backbone fiber construction has begun in the Crowville area, with make ready efforts continuing in the Fort Necessity and Como areas. This will prepare the way for fiber construction to begin in the early spring timeframe, if not sooner.

We remain very pleased with the progress that has been made so far in the construction of the Volt Broadband network. With over 70% of the fiber buildout in place and new customers signing up each day, we continue our efforts to bring this service to you as quickly as possible

We are also very appreciative of your patience as we work to stay on a schedule that will bring this service to all our NELPCO members as quickly as possible.
