Project Update for Friday, December 9, 2022
Construction of the Volt Broadband fiber-to-the-home network continues throughout the NELPCO service territory.
According to Volt Broadband officials, all work in the Log Cabin area has been completed, and everything is up and ready for service. At this time, there are approximately 280 active accounts in this area, and we expect to have some 400-450 active accounts by the end of the year.
In the Baskin 2 feeder area, which encompasses the area west of US 425/LA 15 from the Mangham area to the Liddieville community, over 90 percent of the construction has been completed. Splicing should be completed in this area in the early-February time frame. At that point, customers will be ready for service once the system’s final light testing has been completed.
Construction also continues in the Baskin 3 feeder area east of US 425/LA 15 from the Franklin Cotton Warehouse area north of Winnsboro to the LA 132/Union Church area north of Baskin. This process includes hanging the messenger (support) wire on the existing poles, followed by the attachment of the fiber optic cable to the messenger wire.
Make ready engineering continues in the Oak Grove area and points north toward the Chickasaw and Kilbourne areas. This work is preliminary in nature, but it is also very necessary work in order to stay ahead as the project progresses.
Customers may observe trucks and side-by-sides in their area, as well as work crews conducting preliminary engineering tasks. These operations are done prior to the installation of the messenger wire and fiber cable.
As a reminder, a second DIA drain, which in layman’s terms is a second point of delivery to the internet hotel, has been secured, which affords Volt Broadband a second path to the internet. This serves as a valuable backup that will guarantee safe and reliable service for our customers.
As a reminder, this project began in earnest in April of 2022 and, at that time, we were given a 24–30 month time frame for completion. This translates to the project wrapping up in the fall of 2024.
