Project Update for Friday, November 18, 2022

Nov 18, 2022

Construction of the Volt Broadband fiber-to-the-home network continues to ramp up throughout the NELPCO service territory.

The third and final feeder for commitment has been opened in the Log Cabin area. If you’re in this community, watch for your email to confirm your service, and please feel free to call us if you have any questions.

Construction is nearly complete on Feeder 2 in Baskin, which encompasses the area west of US 425 from the Mangham area to the Liddieville community. We expect splicing to be completed on the Baskin 2 feeder in late January and, at that point, customers will be ready for service once final light testing is complete.

Construction has also commenced in the area east of US 425 from the Franklin Cotton Warehouse area north of Winnsboro to the LA 132/Union Church area north of Baskin. This construction includes hanging the messenger (support) wire on the poles, followed by the lashing of the fiber optic cable to the messenger wire.

Make-ready engineering has worked their way to the Oak Grove area and points north. This make-ready operation is preliminary in nature but very necessary work in order to stay ahead of the project. Customers may observe trucks and ATVs in their area, as well as work crews conducting preliminary engineering tasks.

These operations are done prior to the installation of the messenger wire and fiber cable.

In addition, we have secured a second DIA drain, which in layman’s terms in a second point of delivery to the internet hotel. We had previously been working off just one “pipe”, as they say, but now have a second pipe that gives us two paths to the internet. In other words, we have backup which will guarantee safe and reliable service for our customers.

As a reminder, this project began in earnest in April of 2022, and at that time, we were given a 24–30 month time frame for completion, which translates to the project wrapping up in the fall of 2024.

It took multiple Fortune 500 companies a bevy of promises and some fifty years — with still no service provided — but we’re going to be there in what appears to be less than two years. We clearly understand your level of excitement about this project yet continue to ask for your patience as we work through it.
